Amanda Cook
Counselor
Beacon Academy of Nevada

Dear Students and Parents,

Thank you for visiting Beacon Academy of Nevada’s website. We are unique in that we are a state sponsored, statewide, online charter high school – students can access their courses 24/7 anywhere, anytime with internet connectivity. Students with Beacon Academy complete their required coursework online and can receive one of three types of diploma’s (standard, advanced or adjusted). While enrolled students learn key life skills necessary to compete in our modern society such as technology usage and navigation, time management, self-discipline, and self-motivation.

As the school counselor I would like to welcome you to the future.  It is my belief that in the very near future, most students will be attending some kind of on-line high school.  I want to help you make your high school years with Beacon productive, positive and memorable.

We have the opportunity to communicate with you through the latest up-to-date technological forms.  Since many colleges expect college applications to be submitted on-line, and most colleges are teaching on-line, you will be many steps ahead of the traditional high school student in preparing for college.

With a team of support staff, Beacon Academy has a unique opportunity to help students who may have some psycho/social concerns as well as academic concerns.  Our program allows us to merge the academic side of counseling with the social side of counseling; thereby allowing us to help almost any student with any problem that may be preventing him/her from concentrating on their school work.

About Me

My name is Amanda Cook. I grew up in Arizona but I have been fortunate enough to travel and live in several different places throughout the last 14 years. What are these places you ask... well they include Minot, ND; Valdosta, GA; Iceland; England and now Las Vegas, NV! While living in these different places online learning has been a vital part of obtaining higher education. The majority of all of my higher education has been through online learning. I have an appreciation for those that take the challenge and choose this type of learning platform - it’s not easy! I have a Masters of Education in Counseling, Bachelors of Science in Computer Information and Science, and an Associates of Computer Science. I'm a licensed Nevada School Counselor and Substitute Teacher. I have been the Guidance Counselor and Testing Coordinator for Beacon Academy since the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year.  I have a passion for helping students who come to Beacon with meeting their graduation needs and identifying their future potential.
