Student Support Services and Professional Health and Wellness Resources

Overview
Beacon Academy of Nevada provides unique student support services and resources embedded with its educational programs and offerings. These services and resources are innovative and helpful programs, services and activities which support students and their families. These services and resources are specifically designed to assist the student and family to further academic and social success along with psychological health and wellness.

Social, Behavioral and Psychological Services
Beacon Academy offers an array of social and psychological programs, services and activities. In addition to regular school psychology services and evaluations, Beacon provides multiple levels of psychotherapeutic clinical social work services, psycho-social assessments, consultations, counseling and related wellness services and referrals to specialized health providers in t he community.

These services are available to all enrolled students and their entire family. The services are provided both on site and in other locations within the community, including, if needed and appropriate, the student's home. Most common are educational, social, behavioral and psychological assessments; individual and group counseling; workshops and special presentations on unique topics; family and couple counseling; and assessment and counseling related to problems of substance abuse and addiction.

Mentors
Beacon Academy students enjoy the unique opportunity to have a personal mentor to help each student overcome any challenges or difficulty they be experiencing in accessing and maximizing their educational program at the school. These unique mentors advocate for the student and provide essential educational information, training and support to students. Mentors help guide students through technology and assure that each student is using the advanced educational tools offered at Beacon to their utmost advantage. Mentors provide brief educational and personal counseling; educational monitoring of student progress; assisting students with time management; helping student organize their school work and balancing school and work responsibilities; technology support to students and parents; and support for an array of other needs or challenges that may occur from time to time.

Beacon Outreach Program (BOP)
This special program provides students who need it the opportunity to have in-home services which will enable them to be successful in their educational program. These services are customized for the student who require or are recognized by Beacon staff and faculty as potentially benefitting from it. The central idea of these services are to help the student get on tract, or back on track, with their educational program or to offer a unique or needed social support or psychological service. Typically, students and/or their family will receive between one to four in-home visits under this program.

Center for Health and Learning
The Center for Health and Learning is a Nevada provider of an array of health, educational, social, behavioral and psychological services. The Center is a recognized provider of clinical social work, marital and family therapy, counseling and substance abuse treatment services in Nevada. Beacon Academy of Nevada is aligned with the Center for Health and Learning to provide various forms of behavioral health services to students of Beacon Academy of Nevada and their parents. The Center is located within the school in separate facilities and offices. School staff routinely refer student to the Center for Health and Learning for various specialized health, educational, behavioral, social and psychological services. The services focus on educational, personal, behavioral, social and psychological supports, assessments, treatments, consultations and referrals to other community resources and health professionals. These services are available to Beacon Academy and their families without charge or fee. The Center for Health and Learning services are also available to individuals and families who are not attending or associated with Beacon Academy. Such community referrals are welcomed from other schools, community agencies, community organizations, groups, or anyone.

The overall goal of this unique partnership between the Center for Health and Learning and Beacon Academy of Nevada is to provide behavioral health and wellness services to persons who need them and who are not receiving these essential services from other community providers or agencies. In some cases, the services provided by the Center for Health and Learning are specifically designed to assist students in overcoming issues and challenges to learning - while at other times the services are directed at personal development, wellness and interpersonal improvement and enrichment for children, adolescents, adults and families.

The Center for Health and Learning offers a training partnership with the University of Nevada - Las Vegas, School of Social Work and Human Services Counseling Program and the University of Phoenix, Marital and Family Therapy Program. This partnership provides training and professional development at the graduate and undergraduate level, by the Center's licensed mental health providers. Through supervised field experiences, professional practicum and post-graduate internships, the Center for Health and Learning and Beacon Academy of Nevada provide professional services in multiple mental health fields, including clinical social work, substance abuse counseling, human services counseling and marital and family therapy.
